About

Jacques Naudé is a South African cinematographer and director whose work is defined by an immersive, highly textured visual language and a deep sensitivity to place. Largely self-taught, he approaches cinematography as a way of bringing audiences physically and emotionally into a world, favoring naturalism, intimacy and images that feel observed rather than imposed.

His cinematography spans documentary, narrative, music videos, and commercial work. Recent films include From Dust We Spin and RISE, both of which qualified for Academy Award consideration. His own short films include Overberg, which received Best Cinematography at the SHNIT Awards; Agulhas, selected for Clermont-Ferrand; and Ziggy, selected for the Photo Vogue Awards. He also directed MAMŪS, produced in partnership with Imagine Entertainment, XTR and Rolling Stone Films and featured by Documentary+, and qualified for Academy Award consideration.

Jacques has directed music videos for Keith Richards and The X-Pensive Winos, featured in Rolling Stone Magazine, and for The Tasty Kings with Blondie Chaplin — both selected for the Webby Awards. His commercial work includes campaigns for Nike, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Tiffany & Co., Dior, Vogue, Rolling Stone Magazine, Google, Uniqlo, Puma, Zara and MAC Cosmetics.

Based in New York City, Jacques works internationally across documentary and narrative filmmaking. Whether shooting intimate observational material or highly kinetic sequences, his approach remains rooted in authenticity: creating images that feel immediate and cinematic while preserving the emotional truth of the people and worlds in front of his lens.
